Caring for your bed linen

Machine Washing
Pre-wash your linens before use. Separate your fine linens from other items in the wash. Separate light and dark colours and wash linen in warm water on a gentle cycle with a cold water rinse. Washing your linens with items containing polyester tends to create piling. Zippers may also damage and abrade the linen. Avoid overloading the washing machine as an overloaded machine can cause the fibers to break down due to excessive abrasion and agitation.

Use a mild detergent free from bleach or whiteners. Chlorine bleach can weaken the fibers and cause them to yellow. If white linen needs bleaching use an oxygen based bleach.

Line drying outdoors is gentle and safe but is not always practical. You can machine dry most linens on a low heat and a gentle setting. A high heat setting will weaken fibres and cause shrinkage. Remove from the dryer whilst still damp and smooth and fold. All natural fibres will shrink to some extent after drying but we generously overcut our items to allow for shrinkage.

Linens should be ironed whilst they are still slightly damp. To restore the lustrous face of sateen fabrics, linens should be ironed on the reverse side.

Store bed linens in a cool, dry and well ventilated area. Linens stored long term should be wrapped in white cotton or muslin (old pillow cases work well)

Caring for your bath linen

Machine washing
Machine wash using warm water and a chlorine free bleach detergent. Chlorine bleach will weaken the fabric and cause yellowing. Always separate light and dark colours and wash towels only with other towels to prevent piling. Never use fabric softener when washing towels as it makes them less absorbent.

Hang outside to dry or tumble dry on a low heat with a delicate setting
